Interview with Tawnie

JM: How many different blocks were there?
Tawnie: There were 7 housing units which each held 60 women. When it was real crowded they would have 3 women to a room that was the compound and then there was the building that held the awaiting trial units which housed about an additional 200 women.

JM: Did they have names? If so, what were they?
Tawnie: Pioneer, Algon, Townline, and Laurel there was also the modular where it was just one big room with 60 women. The awaiting trial building was the Smith building. There was also a mental health unit called Barton. There was a newer building that had 2 floors on it and that was brewster 1 and brewster 2

JM: Which types of inmates were housed in the different blocks?
Tawnie: Everyone was in together except the townline was a drug program and barton was the mental health unit. You had to prove you had a mental health issue to be housed in Barton.

JM: What do you remember being the nicest and worst parts about the different blocks?
Tawnie: The best part was the Catholic chaplin Sister Maureen Clark she is so sweet she always tried to do things to help us to get through doing our time such as different spirtual groups and mentoring and she also had retreats. The worst part was the women who were just nasty and didn't care what they said or did. Also some of the correctional officers really made us miserable and treated us like scum.
