Leisure Time

Interview with Tawnie

JM: What types of facilities were available to help pass the time?
Tawnie: They had computer classes. You could get your ged, they had a woodworking class, they had jobs you could do for very little pay and they had a beauty salon. Plus there was alot of rec things you could do such as exercise class and they had a weight room that you had to sign up for. They would show a movie from time to time, there were outdoor sports such as softball and religious activities such as church and prayer groups.

JM: Did you have regular access to the entertainment or was competition fierce? Give details.
Tawnie: We had a tv in each housing unit but we all had to agree what to watch because if there was any fighting the tv would be shut off.

JM: Did you have a hard time staying in shape while in jail?
Tawnie: No because I walked the yard as much as I possibly could and did exercise class.

JM: How often did you get to go outside? What did you do outside if you were allowed to? If you were not allowed to go outside what could you do for exercise?
Tawnie: everyday and most of the time twice a day.

JM: Did the jail offer church services? If so, what were they like and when were they held?
Tawnie: Yes the jail did offer church services. They were awesome. The volunteers were wonderful and very supportive. It was almost like you weren't in jail.
