Leisure Time

Interview with Dave

JM: What types of facilities were available to help pass the time?
Dave: School, therapy, aa meetings, church, a library (you could request specific books... if they had it they would bring it to you)... the library had a pretty good selection, TV. Puzzles (from the library), you could buy chess sets

JM: Did you have regular access to the entertainment or was competition fierce? Give details.
Dave: It wasn't hard to access the TV. The TV was on until 11 pm.

JM: Did you have a hard time staying in shape while in jail?
Dave: No. Actually I lost a lot of weight in there because the meals were so regimented. Some of the other inmates said they keep you on 2000 calories a day. I also exercised in there.

JM: How often did you get to go outside? What did you do outside if you were allowed to? If you were not allowed to go outside what could you do for exercise?
Dave: Never. We were always in our cell unless we were going to a meeting or a visit.

JM: Did the jail offer church services? If so, what were they like and when were they held?
Dave: Yes they had church services, and AA meetings. Church services were every Sunday. AA meetings were also on Sunday.
