Leisure Time

Interview with Allyson and Eric

JM: What types of facilities were available to help pass the time?
Allyson: There are classes you can take... both Bible type and counseling types of classes. I got in the programs mod and started taking the classes. They have a great library where they bring around books twice a week...I discovered several great authors while I was in there. Basketball, volleyball, cards. You can order radios.
Eric: I played chess and checkers lots of card games and listened to the radio. also I played basketball during rec time they also have books and a law library to look up and study the law that is all I can think of oh yea in the program mod they had movies and dominoes

JM: Did you have regular access to the entertainment or was competition fierce? Give details.
Allyson: With the TV, the majority vote got to watch what they wanted. It never was a problem. No one would get real worked up about it.
Eric: I did not care to much for the entertainment but the competition was fierce though. Wow I mean ive seen riots ensued from disagreements on what tv show or what time one group was scheduled to watch the tv or if someone disagreed with the program that was being shown

JM: Did you have a hard time staying in shape while in jail?
Allyson: Yes, I gained 40 lbs. I like to eat, I like my food.
Eric: not too much it was easy Im a smaller person so I gain weight when Im locked up I don't mind it

JM: How often did you get to go outside? What did you do outside if you were allowed to? If you were not allowed to go outside what could you do for exercise?
Allyson: In the new part of the jail, with the mod I was in, there is an indoor, outdoor rec room that is cement with some outside air coming in, but its not really outside. You can go in there anytime when you aren't locked down for the night. I would usually go in there once a day to get fresh air and walk in circles. Sometimes play volleyball.
Eric: Once a day when the weather permits. or if the warden permits I guess. If not outside maybe the indoor court or just do exercises in my room or the day room

JM: Did the jail offer church services? If so, what were they like and when were they held?
Allyson: The church ladies come with spiritual type books. They have frequent church services.
Eric: yes they were held every sunday in the programs mod it was okay I guess it helped me get through my time
