JM: Did you have regular access to telephones?
Sam: yes we did. there were 5 or 6 in the dorm available
from 9 am to 9pm i think it was. Never had to
wait. the phone was almost always available
JM: What types of charges applied for calling people? How much money would you guess the average inmate spends per week on phone calls?
Sam: the average inmate spent way too much because they
charge too much. the average inmate was spending
$100 plus a week
JM: Did you need to buy phone cards to call out?
Sam: no...but they became available...it was usually
collect calls only.
JM: Did the jail screen your calls?
Sam: of course they did. they didnt say so but they did.
