Visitor Policy

Interview with Tom and Abe

JM: How often could you receive visitors?
Tom: Legal visits are whenever. For family and friends I want to say 2 days a week, maximum 90 minutes a visit.
Abe: Once per week in the pod that I was housed in at Wayne County Jail.

JM: Was the check-in process lengthy for those who came to see you?
Tom: An hour, 45 to 20 minutes if there wasn't a crowd and the guards were in a good mood.
Abe: I heard it was a pretty involved process not only on visiting day but also trying to schedule the visits in the very first place.

JM: What was the visiting environment like?
Tom: Long stainless steel bench with and other side is another bench. Face to face.
Abe: It was a large room with tables and glass partitions. It was dreary and looked very outdated. The guards were constantly watching to avoid the transmission of contraband between inmates and visitors. The guards were also very rude during visiting time not only to the inmates but the visitors as well.
