JM: How many meals did you get per day? Lisa: 3 Bill: 3 Ron: 3 Cindi: 3 meals a day, no snacks Holly: 3 meals were given per day
JM: How would you rate the food? Please give details of why. Lisa: 4-Not that great Bill: 3 on a scale of 1 - 10 Ron: Actually very good, just no plentiful. If it
wasn't for commissary I would have always been
starving. But cheeseburgers and fry's. Pancakes
and sausage, Meatloaf & mashed potato's and
corn...Stir fry, Soup like very good soup, stuff I
would buy soup, actually some of the best soup I
have ever had soup. With a sandwich(turkey,
bologna, pb&j, even freaking salami w/chz, and
grilled chz)
And it was always freshly cooked, fresh
ingredients and always served very hot. Cindi: It wasn't great. I had a vegetarian diet so I ate a
bunch of beans and rice. Basically all day every
day. And there was no coffee which made a lot of us
quite sad. But the rest of the food for the most
part looked edible. The meals were small though. Holly: The food was better than other jails I have been to,
but I didn't eat much of it because it is very bland
and doesn't seem to have much nutritional value.
Most of the time if I did eat the meals, my stomach
would start hurting, so I would avoid most of the
processed items.
JM: Did you have any favorite/least favorite meals? Lisa: No Bill: They were all pretty much the same - a couple
slices of bread, some sort of corn meal, milk
and a fruit. Ron: Favorite- Turkey sand w/ broccoli cheese soup. 4
crackers, a juice, and sliced pears...The chz
burger french frys, hot dog, potato chips and
cookie pack was the biggest.
Least- Some sweet and sour rice crap with
applesauce..That was the only bad one I had.. Cindi: I feel like all I ate was beans and rice. But it
was nice when we got things like fruit or pretzels
that were easily saved for a snack later. Holly: The cake and baked goods were pretty good. But, they
don't serve cake very often. My least favorite was
the mystery meat or 'steak' with gravy.
JM: Were there any other snacks offered outside of meals? What was commissary like and how expensive was it? Lisa: No Bill: You could purchase 1 x per week. Ron: Whatever you wanted to buy. On the list...I liked
Pork Rinds, Peanut Butter Bars, and Atomic Fire
Balls, and Jalapeno Chz Sauce myself. Cindi: There was comissary, and it was decently priced,
ordered on TUesdays and delivered on Fridays. We
didn't get snacks in between meals. We did however
save fruit or other things from the meals to eat
later, however we were really supposed to do that. Holly: The only other snacks that were offered were for
diabetics or women that were pregnant and they
were given a fruit, milk, and half a sandwich and
this was during the evening generally, a few hours
after we had eaten dinner. The commissary is
expensive and there wasn't much to choose from.
There are very little healthy options and
everything is overpriced.
