Interview with Milles, Preston, Lauren, Rosa and Dallas
JM: What else would you want a friend or family member to know if they have a loved one going to this jail? Milles: make sure the inmate has money on his/her books it
will help with things like shampoo toothpaste
deodorant etc. as well as pay for snacks and
stationary. make sure you visit regularly it helps
remind an inmate of home. and make sure you write
its always nice to get a letter in jail its nice
to know you're not forgotten. Preston: Keep in contact with them! Accept collect calls,
or send money so they will have credit to buy
phone calls. Visit them (if possible. If a
problem arises for them, you may need to alert
their counselor to get an issue corrected. Lauren: It's difficult at times, and the
worst part is the wait before
sentencing because the inmate can
feel consumed by stress of the
unknown. And typically the inmate
expects family or friend to be able
to do more fit them when in reality
there really isn't allot they can
do. Rosa: Jail sucks don't do it, the guards are pretty laid back visits are
pretty private, keep your head up you'll be out soon and
multnomah county is pretty decent so it'll be fine Dallas: I would want them to know that the visits are nice,
and sometimes they go over the actual time, and
that if they want to give their loved one
commissary it would definitely get them fed better.
JM: If somebody knows they will be serving time in this jail what is your advice to them? Milles: stay out of trouble and you wont be back there
again. there is nothing good about jail so don't go
back Preston: Don't be too friendly. Don't tell too much about
yourself. Keep alert. Don't trust anyone. One or
two acquaintance may be helpful at sometime. Act
firm and confident. Hang on to any of your
belongings carefully. Lauren: To just look at it like this, it's
nut the worst thing that could
happen and just take responsibility
for your crime and do the time. Most
likely you knew the consequences of
whatever you did to land you here. Rosa: Jail sucks don't do it, the guards are pretty laid back visits are
pretty private, keep your head up you'll be out soon and
multnomah county is pretty decent so it'll be fine Dallas: I don't have any advice. Keep nice with the guards,
because they can be your friends or your enemies,
don't get caught cheeking or fighting, and read and
write any time you can.
JM: Please list any other jail or rehab facilities you have been to. Preston: I've been to Inverness, E.O.C.I, O.S.C.I., Snake
River, and Columbia River. Lauren: Coffee creek Correctional facility
