JM: What clothes could you have brought in to wear in the jail (underwear, socks, etc.)? Kristen: You are not allowed to bring any type of clothing
in the prison. They supply everything for you to
wear. Renee: Nothing could be brought in at all. Everything they gave to you
when you came in. Chad: They only let you keep the underwear and socks you
come in with if they are white and have no visible
markings on them. All new clothes must be bought
from commissary. Dennis: None what so ever!!!!! you were issued two pairs
of socks two sets of underwear and two t-shirts.
Then your main out fit was a prison issued one
piece jump suit. And a pair of shorts.
JM: If you had a set uniform, what did it look like? Please be specific about each piece of clothing issued to you. Kristen: In county it was a tan color shirt and pants, felt
like polyester material and in state, it was a
maroon color shirt and pants. Renee: We were issued two white shirts, two pairs of white socks, two
pairs of white underwear. Girls were issued a tan top and
bottoms, men were issued green or blue jump suits. Maximum
security uniforms were bright orange, r.h.u uniform was a
black and white stripped jumpsuit, and trustee uniforms were
blue. Chad: The uniform at the Erie County Prison is a green
jump suit made of a sturdy material. They also
issue you underwear and socks if you are deemed
'indigent' (unable to provide for yourself, no
money) Dennis: The under garments were of the cheapest quality
the socks would shrink after the first wash as
would the t-shirts. The one piece jump suit was
hard to get in and out of.
JM: Were there any assigned clothes in high demand that an inmate should look for when getting clothing assigned? Kristen: not really, it was all pretty standard. Everyone
got the same stuff. Renee: Comfortable pants and a not so baggie shirt were the best we
could get. Chad: Not that I know of. They usually have uniforms and
or a pair of underwear/socks for everyone. Dennis: No every one got the same exact set of issued
uniforms.
JM: Was the clothing different between men and women? Kristen: in county, yes...their uniforms were blue, but in
state, it was an all womens' prison, so they were
the same. Renee: Yes, different colors, except for the trustee uniform. And the
mens uniforms were usually a jumpsuit, where women wore
two piece. Chad: The men and women all wore the same color uniforms
in Erie County. Dennis: Yes men got the one piece jump suit and the women
got brown two piece uniforms kinda like a Doctors
set of scrubs.
