Pre-sentencing

Interview with Isaac

JM: Tell us about the pre-sentencing process:
Isaac: In my case, I had no pre-sentencing. it was for child support. I couldn't afford the payment they made for me, missed a payment and contempt charge was filed. For child support- the first sentence is 3 months and the next charge would be 6 months. I enrolled in a class that allowed me to do a work relase.

JM: Did you have police stop by your house for questioning? If not please give us details on how you came to be arrested.
Isaac: No. They sent a constable. I was frisked and placed in handcuffs and shackles. In addition to the constable, they had 2 police cars with a total of 4 local police. You would think I was a murderer or something. They took me 3 weeks before Xmas, in front of my kid.

JM: What was court like? Please give as many details as you recall.
Isaac: There are many guys at the same time. Its all hurried too. No time to talk to an attorney. The only people that get a decent and respectable hearing are those with paid attorneys. The judge prefers you don't talk. He would rather talk to the attorney or someone in authority. I understand this though

JM: What were your original charges? What did you end up being convicted of?
Isaac: contempt of court and was convicted of contemp of court.
