JM: How many different blocks were there? Seth: there were like 25 different blocks Ellen: THERE WERE TWO WOMENS DORMS. Isaac: I do not know. You are confined to your own unit
and not allowed to roam.
JM: Did they have names? If so, what were they? Seth: zoo loo alpha beta gamma charlie delta fox trot
hilton golf Ellen: MAXIMUM SECURITY WAS PAPA
THE OTHER STARTED WITH AN O, CAN'T REMEMBER OFFHAND Isaac: Yankee dorm in the orientation dorm. All of the
dorms follow the theme of military lettering -
e.g. alpha, bravo, charlie, etc.
JM: Which types of inmates were housed in the different blocks? Seth: murderers sex offenders drug dealers rape theives
car stealers gang members people who would do
anything just to get put in jail you would have
homeless people who would go to jail to get warm Ellen: THE VIOLENT OFFENDERS OR WOMEN WHO HAD MULTIPLE
CHARGES, MAJOR FELONIES, OR WHAT THEY CALL GENERAL
SESSION CHARGES WERE IN PAPA. THE OTHER DORM WAS
FOR MINOR CHARGES OR WOMEN WHO HAD 90 DAYS OR LESS. Isaac: Yankee, the orientation dorm houses all inmates
when they first arrive. From there inmates are
segregated based on the nature of their crime
(violent, non-violent) and the seriousness. There
are also special units to house people who cannot
behave in general population or are on protective
custody.
JM: What do you remember being the nicest and worst parts about the different blocks? Seth: i did not like the jail at all so how could i
describe the feeling? cold lonely no one on the
outside to talk to and you always saw fights daily
and you would be on lock down all the time meaning
you could not come out of your room Ellen: I WAS ONLY PLACED IN THE PAPA DORM BECAUSE I HAD
HIGH FELONIES. I HEARD STORIES ABOUT THE OTHER
SAYING THE OFFICERS WERE STRICT BUT THE BEDS WERE
BETTER AND A MORE OPEN LAYOUT ONLY ONE BATHROOM AND
NO DOORS. THE WORST PART ABOUT MINE WAS IT HAD
DOORS AND ALOT OF LOCKDOWNS. Isaac: There was nothing nice about any of it. The whole
place smells. The mattresses are tiny. The
Richland County jail was cleaner than other jails
I have been to, but that's not saying a lot. It's
always cold in the rooms. All of the blocks are
virtually the same. After the orientation you
allowed a little bit more free time, but that is
really the only difference.
