Medications

Interview with Dorothy

JM: Did you always have access to necessary medications?
Dorothy: No and if you needed any Ibuprofen you had to purchase it on the commissary and also cough drops or ointment creams. The ibuprofen was .50 for only two pills. The nurse would not provide any of these items and if you asked she would tell you to buy it on the commissary. Well if you do not have any money then you are SOL!!

JM: How did you get your medications?
Dorothy: If you did get medications the nurse would come by two times a day to provide them to you to the vestibule and watch you take them.

JM: What types of punishments were incurred for abuse of drugs? Did you ever witness this?
Dorothy: If you got caught hoarding medicines you would get a disciplinary action and that mean loss of privileges such as visitation or commissary and rec. Also they would make you go to separation for how ever many days they gave you after they did an investigation. Yes, I saw a female inmate get like two weeks separation and loss of her commissary and rec for hoarding pills.
