Interview with Allan, Clayton and Gabi

JM: What else would you want a friend or family member to know if they have a loved one going to this jail?
Allan: Send money. Try to keep them in money to get food and stuff. The food is so bad, and when I was there they didn't follow dietary guidelines. When you have money, the other inmates call it "love on the outside". Be an advocate for your loved one.
Clayton: wear several pairs of socks and white underwear and white tshirts and long johns because it gets cold
Gabi: women wear 3 sportsbras in 3 teeshirts and long johns and as may socks as you can. men should follow the same but the exception of the bras. otherwise you will be cold and uncomfortable.

JM: If somebody knows they will be serving time in this jail what is your advice to them?
Allan: Remember it is what it is. Don't try to apply logic to what happens in jail. Just deal with it. You count your days and then you get out. Don't think you can change anything on the outside while you are on the inside. Just let things go.
Clayton: Avoid any conflict with others just try to get along with people. There are some nice people in there but stay clear of the obnoxious ones since they are usually the troublemakers. be respectful of your CO's and be polite with them but dont try to kiss up. The CO's I had were pretty cool some are stricter than others. Always treat your cellmate well even if you dislike him. Dont tell people exactly when you are getting out until right before.
Gabi: its bad in there. you can sit in there for 2years and never see a tree or sunlight. your locked down alot meals suck everyone of them. best thing is dont go to rappahannock area and get in trouble cause it sucks

Allan: Hanesville Correctional (Warsaw, VA) Nunenberg (Victoria, VA) Halifax (Danville, NC) James River Correctional Caroline County (Denton, MD)
Gabi: western state mental hosp due to 2 sucide attempts in jail and i was diagnosed with bi- polr disorder i have a lot to say about the treatment you get i spent most of my time in isolation didnt get anytime out of my cell due to a mental disorder
