Leisure Time

Interview with Ryan

JM: What types of facilities were available to help pass the time?
Ryan: Once in awhile they might bring in a movie. They got yard time as long as no one was fighting or acting stupid. You could buy cards. They also had a couple of games like monopoly.

JM: Did you have regular access to the entertainment or was competition fierce? Give details.
Ryan: Only time there was fights was over gambling.

JM: Did you have a hard time staying in shape while in jail?
Ryan: The only problem was there was not nutrition. I would work out a routine of push ups, pull up, dips, water bags for curls.... I always kept in shape.

JM: How often did you get to go outside? What did you do outside if you were allowed to? If you were not allowed to go outside what could you do for exercise?
Ryan: Supposed to be once a day but they didn't always happen. There was nothing out there but a cement room with netting. You could get a little fresh air for an hour but I never went outside. I liked staying in cause it was quiet.

JM: Did the jail offer church services? If so, what were they like and when were they held?
Ryan: They had chuch service you can go to every week. Up in max they might let you go every other week just cause the are keeping the gangs from mingling. The services were cool. They had good people coming to help. The might preach a little word, sing a couple songs. It was nice. fosongs
