Meals

Interview with Sonia

JM: How many meals did you get per day?
Sonia: Three meals a day everyday

JM: How would you rate the food? Please give details of why.
Sonia: 5 It was edible. Pretty bland actually. Mostly consisted of starches lots of bread rice grits oat meal and the menu was extremely repetitive. I felt like it it was at least prepared in a clean environment and was at least hot. In nassau they give coffee and milk every morning with breakfast which is nice then ice with cool aid and tea for lunch and supper Duval was horrible Downtown but MCC was alot better

JM: Did you have any favorite/least favorite meals?
Sonia: My favorited meals were always the breakfasts. Coffee is a big deal in jail. It is a big deal outside of jail but I was always glad to have a cup of coffee and a carton of milk

JM: Were there any other snacks offered outside of meals? What was commissary like and how expensive was it?
Sonia: Yes there was a big selection of junk food. Candy, cookies, patries, and chips. no fresh fruits or much anything that was healthy. Things were very expensive. I rarely was sent money so I didnt get to order many things
