Interview with Shawn, Tom, Linda, Margaret and Laura
JM: What clothes could you have brought in to wear in the jail (underwear, socks, etc.)? Shawn: The jail issue. two piece jumpsuit, underwear
and socks and t shirt Tom: If you had a medical requirement, you could have
insoles brought in by a visitor. Linda: We could not bring in any clothing. We
couldn't even keep our own enderwear or
bra. Margaret: YOU BRING WHATEVER IT IS YOU HAVE ON
YOUR BACK. BUT YOU CANNOT WEAR IT
INSIDE. ITS PUT INTO YOUR PROPERTY FOR
YOUR RELEASE. Laura: you are not allowed get to wear you rown
clothes in jail. Not even your underwear.
JM: If you had a set uniform, what did it look like? Please be specific about each piece of clothing issued to you. Shawn: Bottom and top were orange, white socks and t
shirt and underwear and brown shower shoes Tom: In the beginning you are given a orange jumpsuit,
white t-shirt, socks, underwear and brown slippers.
When in general pop, they give you the same, just
the jumpsuit is blue and instead of slippers you get
boots. Linda: It was orange pants and orange top. Like
pajamas or hospital scrubs. We got a
white t shirt and white socks and white
underwear and bra. Margaret: WE WERE ISSUED A PAIR OF RUBBER
SANDALS. A PAIR OF SOCKS. A SPORTS BRA.
UNDERWEAR. AN UNDERSHIRT. AND SOME
ORANGE SCRUBS THAT HAD CDC INMATE ON
IT. Laura: you were issued a shapeless shift-like top with
a top left breast pocket with a slit in itso you
could wearyour issued jail ID dforward facing at
all times. pants were of thesame thick woven
cotton naterial. a white T shirt thathad to be
tucked into your pants, a pairof socks and a
pair of underewwear (hopefully without any
stains) and a bra
JM: Were there any assigned clothes in high demand that an inmate should look for when getting clothing assigned? Shawn: no Tom: White T-shirts and new socks. The majority of the
whites that I saw were all very grey Linda: I would try to get the cleanest whitest t
shirt if I could. Margaret: NOT REALLY. I KNOW THE MEN ALWAYS
WANT THE BIGGEST SIZES AVAILABLE. Laura: yes, no stained underwear, socks without holes
and a pro club white Tshirt was top of the line
JM: Was the clothing different between men and women? Shawn: No, just the underwear Tom: Women wore the same thing. Linda: The clothing was the same. Margaret: NO THE CLOTHING WAS THE SAME, EXCEPT
SPORTS BRAS AND PERIOD PANTIES INSTEAD
OF TIGHTY WHITEYS. Laura: no, just between worker inmates and regular
inmates
