Interview with Raymond, Brenda, Reta, Ronnie, Germz and Jimmy

JM: What else would you want a friend or family member to know if they have a loved one going to this jail?
Raymond: Keep in touch with them. Everyone likes to hear their name being called at mail call.
Brenda: family visits help so much to stay focused and a clear mind. mail is also important. I know about of sight out of mind but if family members can try to remember to write letters send picture and send love.
Reta: Whatever support that you can give them beause it's a very lonley time... Before that, intervene in thier lives especially if you can see your kids getting involved with drugs. Share your experiences, educate, educate, educate.
Ronnie: Just writing and sending money. Let them know you're still there for them and that someone is on the outside thinking of them.
Germz: first off sign up for cheaper phone calls at jail calls. com go visit at least once a week. it means alot to the person to know that you are loved enough to get a visit . and dont forget to write. show up to court dates and if you can afford it send like 10 or 20 dollors every other week so the person doesnt starve in there
Jimmy: Get them out as soon as you can. The place is not nearly as dangerous as I would have expected, but it is grim and depressing and the boredom is probably the worst thing they will suffer

JM: If somebody knows they will be serving time in this jail what is your advice to them?
Raymond: Avoid Officer Snell. Don't get into any debts and don't get in anybody else's business. Do your own time.
Brenda: don't hang with the wrong people. try to stay low key and do your time and go home.
Reta: Just pretty much do what's asked of you. Read the rule book and keep your nose clean. It will pass eventualy. You will be released. While you're there do something worth while... educate yourself, become abetter person on the inside so your tranistion to the outside will be better.
Ronnie: I would say, mind your own business. Try to experience some religion to keep the negativity from getting to you.
Germz: dont horse play. dont gable or use drugs and deffinately dont mess around with punks even ie thats how you swing you will get stabbed. if your a pedaphile or have any even ie you didnt do it have any sex crime you better pc up if you want to live
Jimmy: Don't make trouble. Do what the guards tell you, but don't be overly friendly with them. Formal and polite is enough. Try to appear as confident as you can without being an arrogant asshole. Your default setting should be respect, both giving and taking. Avoid being in any sort of debt with other inmates. If someone offers you a favor, return it ASAP. Some people in there are genuinely friendly, but don't let your guard down until you know someone really well. Make as many friends as you can: they could save your life.
