Interview with Raymond, Brenda, Reta, Ronnie, Germz and Jimmy

JM: Did you have regular access to telephones?
Raymond: They actually had around 200 hundred phones all around the place.
Brenda: At camp we got to use the phone twice a week and from the hours of 5pm to 10pm Monday thru Friday and 715am to 10 pm on Saturday and Sunday.
Reta: When they were turned on throughout the day you could make calls. They had 6 in each pod.
Ronnie: Depending on the dorm maybe 2 or 3 phones.
Germz: yes there are pay phones on the wall.
Jimmy: Yes- I could make collect calls whenever I wanted

JM: What types of charges applied for calling people? How much money would you guess the average inmate spends per week on phone calls?
Raymond: They charge like $3.95 per call just to call out and like $1 per minutes after that.
Brenda: it was $4.40 to talk for 15 min. from Fallbrook to San Jose ca
Reta: A crazy amount. I don't remember but it cost more to call collect from jail then call another country.
Ronnie: I was about $4 bucks for a phone call.
Germz: if you call everyday for 15 minutes a day it will run you about 80 dollars because you can only make collect calls
Jimmy: The charges were paid by the person taking the call. I don't know how much these are, but I have heard that they are extortionate.

JM: Did you need to buy phone cards to call out?
Raymond: At that time no but I think they got them now.
Brenda: no they were not allowed at camp.you could buy them in county jail
Reta: There were phone cards. They were like $10 on up.
Ronnie: No. They didn't have anything like that.
Germz: no you can only call collect in this jail
Jimmy: No. The only option was to make collect calls.

JM: Did the jail screen your calls?
Raymond: Of course. Absolutely.
Brenda: yes the monitored and listened randomly to you calls especially while in camp.
Reta: They said that they do.
Ronnie: Yes they did all the time. At least that's what they said there were doing.
Germz: yes, they listen to all calls for criminal activities
Jimmy: Perhaps. I have no way of knowing
