JM: Which jail did you visit?
Darla: DUVAL COUNTY JOHN E. GOODE CORRECTIONAL FACILITY

JM: How long ago was your visit?
Darla: 1 MONTH AGO THE LAST, I GO WHEN I CAN, I HAVE TO SHARE THE VISITS WITH OTHERS.

JM: How many times did you visit?
Darla: FOUR SO FAR ,PROBABLY MORE IN FUTURE MONTHS

JM: How do you go about making an appointment to see an inmate?
Darla: YOU DO NOT GET APPOINTMENTS , THEY ARE ALLOWED ONE VISITOR ON THE DAY IT FALLS BY THEIR LAST NAME, IF YOU GET TO THE FACILITY AND SOMEONE HAS ALREADY VISITED THAT DAY, YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED A VISIT.

JM: How long did check-in process take?
Darla: UP TO ONE HOUR

JM: Were the guards accommodating?
Darla: ONE GUARD HAD A SEVERE ATTITUDE PROBLEM, I ASKED HIS NAME, HE SHOUTED AT ME AND THEN FINALLY SHOWED ME HIS BADGE(YES HE IS STILL AT THE FRONT COUNTER) THE OTHER GUARDS HAVE BEEN DECENT ,EXCEPT THEY ARE ALLOWED TO SRAND BEHIND THE GLASS AND CUSS WHERE THE PUBLIC CAN HEAR THEM.

JM: What was the visiting environment like?
Darla: UNCLEAN AND UNSANITARY FOR VISITORS AND INMATES ALIKE, YOU CAN ASK FOR A TOWEL TO CLEAN THE PHONE OFF ON THE VISITORS SIDE BUT THAT IS NOT ALWAYS AVAILABLE.

JM: How long was your visit? Did the guards ever allow you to take extra time?
Darla: NEVER!! 2 HOURS MAXIMUM VISIT

JM: What was the parking situation like?
Darla: CROWDED, MY CAR WAS HIT WHILE I WAS THERE BY SOMEONE WHO HAD NO INSURANCE AND THE WRONG TAG ON THEIR VEHICLE, I WAS LEFT A PAPER BY THE JSO ON MY WINDSHIELD. METERED PARKING ONLY

JM: What advice would you offer to somebody who is going to visit an inmate in this jail?
Darla: BE PREPARED IT IS VERY NOISY IN THE GLASSED IN AREA, VERY HARD TO HEAR,TRY TO GET A TOWEL TO CLEAN THE PHONE OFF BEFORE YOU USE IT. DO NOT START AN ARGUMENT WITH THE INMATE THEY CAN DO NOTHING ABOUT THEIR SITUATION,EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE INCARCERATED. I AM SURE IT IS UNPLEASANT TO BE IN THERE, AND CONTRARY TO PUBLIC KNOWLEDGE,THERE ARE NO TV,NO RADIO,NO EDUCATIONAL OR VOCATIONAL PROGRAMS,THESE INMATES ARE CONFINED TO A SMALL AREA WITH NOTHING TO DO BUT WALK AROUND AND THINK.READ THE PAMPHLET, IT SOUNDS LIKE THEY CARE ABOUT THE INMATES, DO NOT BE CONFUSED IT IS JUST A JOB THEY HAVE TO DO, AND I DO NOT AGREE THAT THEY GET TO WORK DOUBLE SHIFTS IN THAT ENVIRONMENT, IT MAKES THEM BE IN A WORSE MOOD THAN NORMAL. ALSO PHONE CALLS AND COMMISSARY ARE TERRIBLY EXPENSIVE.
