Interview with Viktor, Veronica and Paula

JM: Did you have regular access to telephones?
Viktor: Yes, but at that time it was collect calls only.
Veronica: yes to anyone that could except collect calls.
Paula: Yes you can use the phone anytime your out in the day room. But there collect calls only.

JM: What types of charges applied for calling people? How much money would you guess the average inmate spends per week on phone calls?
Viktor: Collect.
Veronica: if it is a local collect call they were 5 dollars a call then long distant could be as much as 20 dollars per call.
Paula: If it was a local call even though it was collect it was 5.00 for 15 minutes. Long distant collect calls are minute by minute charges. Could be as much a 20.00 for 15 minutes.

JM: Did you need to buy phone cards to call out?
Viktor: Not available when I was in.
Veronica: you could buy phone cards for 10 dollars each if you had money
Paula: If you had money you can buy calling cards. 10.00 cards. and that's for calls that could not except collect CALLS.

JM: Did the jail screen your calls?
Viktor: I'm sure they did.
Veronica: yes they record all calls
Paula: The jail record every call that is made on those phones.
