JM: Did you find it difficult to get along with other inmates? Please give examples to explain why you did or didn't. Jorge: I found it most difficult to get along with
young inmates who were trying to be tough. Jeannette: Me and my cell mate got along fine, but other than
her i didnt talk to anyone i was the youngest
person in there and i stayed in my cell for 5 days Larry: No not really I was lucky to meet the guys I did in the
beginning of my sentence they were loyal and we would watch
out for each other to make sure nobody messed with or took
advantage of any of us
JM: What types of things did you have to do to avoid problems or fights with other inmates? Jorge: Staying to myself. There are a lot of fights
due to gang involvement on the outside and
racial conflict. I was never involved with a
gang so that kept me out of a lot of it. Jeannette: i didnt know of any fights in the womens cells
while i was in there but personally i just sat in
my cell or slept, on day 3 or 4 the deouty
actuallly had to be sure i was alive
these word minimums kinda suck really really
really really bad Larry: It depended on the situation but sometimes you have to look
the other way because the opposing force outnumbered you
so much that it was at times better to be concerned about your
own life then to get involved in things that didnt have anything
to do with you in the first place
JM: Were you able to choose an inmate as your cellmate if you knew one? How often would your cellmate(s) change? Jorge: A few times, but that was a rare privilege. It
only happened if the officer was cool with it
and if there was an open cell. Jeannette: no i wasnt we came up in a group of 3 and they put
me and anohter women together because the 3rd was
in for a violent charge so she was alnoe and never Larry: Yes after a couple months I was able to have one of my very
good friends become my cell mate but that only lasted untill he
was sentenced and sent to a prison
