JM: Tell us about the pre-sentencing process: Jorge: I moved to a different town with my girlfriend
and her family. Nobody had jobs so we started
stealing car parts from junkers and selling
them. I got caught. Jeannette: It was a over all scary experience. My parents
didnt know at the time i was afride to tell them,
i was 18 just outta High School. I didnt know what
was gonna happen, they started say maximum 90 days
minmum 25 and i was scared i was gonna be taken to
jail that day
Larry: It was A very nerve racking process not having any idea of
what was about to happen to you presently and what your
future might hold. I had to go to court multiple times just to get
my court date adjourned for another date which may be
several months away
JM: Did you have police stop by your house for questioning? If not please give us details on how you came to be arrested. Jorge: I had already moved back home to Owosso when
some police came to my house to arrest me on
warrants for larceny. Jeannette: No. I was given a date to be at court and on my
trail date i was arrested. Then i was put in a
holding cell in the court house, where i was
searched and hand cuffed. And then spent 3 hours
in holding cell then was transfered over to the
jail by van Larry: Yes the police did come and question me and actually take me
down to the police station as sort of a scare tactic to try and
get me to admit to a whole list of things. After words they
allowed me to leave and drove me back to my house.
JM: What was court like? Please give as many details as you recall. Jorge: I was arraigned the day after I was put in
jail. I went to court shortly after and didn't
fight the case. I confessed to the crimes. Jeannette: it was long, and confussing. i remember my attorny
only talking to me once. i could barley hear the
judge talking to me. when it was finally my turn
to go up the jude spent like 2 mins talking to me
b 4 he sentenced me. Larry: Court was very diffrent because I was already in custody so
everytime I had a court date they call you out of your cell early
in the morning and then you go to the court house and wait in
a holding cell untill your docket is called and they are ready for
you. Sometimes you will wait there all day just to find out your
court date was postponed and the whole day was a waste of
time.
JM: What were your original charges? What did you end up being convicted of? Jorge: Originally charged with 3 larceny of auto and 1
attempted larceny. I was charged with 3
attempted larceny and 1 larceny, all felonies. Jeannette: i was orignially charged with minor in possion,
but thankfully with the cops never cought me with
any thing so it was dropped to disorderly conduct Larry: I was originally charged with ten felonies, but I was only
charged with three . They were carrying a concealed weapon
and breaking and entering of a business
