Inmates

Interview with Ralph and Alex

JM: Did you find it difficult to get along with other inmates? Please give examples to explain why you did or didn't.
Ralph: Actually no it's pretty easy to get along. People are willing to help you out and show you the ropes, teach you the rules.
Alex: I thought it was easy to get along with the guys there. Although I didn't look for trouble as some people do while they are in jail. I tend to get along with most people though.

JM: What types of things did you have to do to avoid problems or fights with other inmates?
Ralph: Normally gambling and stealing and talking back COs can get you into trouble situtions.
Alex: Well the main thing to do in there our out of there is to have respect.Don't be a bad ass starting problems. Just show some respect to the guys in there and they will show it back to you. Although I always stay outside the circles of guys and see who could be trouble and who is not then I can allow myself to be involved with the guys there.

JM: Were you able to choose an inmate as your cellmate if you knew one? How often would your cellmate(s) change?
Ralph: Through time you could. I was able to change my cell to have a corner cell which are bigger.
Alex: At first they stick you with whoever where ever they have room. After a guy moves out or there is room they do allow you to move into a cell with people you know. Cellmates changed regular for some but some not as much. They also have quite a few single cells so you have no cellmate.
