JM: How many different blocks were there? Rachel: I DON'T KNOW. Paula: Four wings with 2 block per wing Lindsey: For the women's side there was only one block and i
am not sure how many blocks were on the mens side,
but it was definitely ALOT bigger.
JM: Did they have names? If so, what were they? Rachel: I DON'T KNOW. LETTER DESIGNATIONS, I THINK. Paula: Yes.
A block: Upper/Lower Wing
B block: Upper/Lower Wing
C block: Upper/Lower Wing
D block: Upper/Lower Wing Lindsey: The blocks were just named after letters in the
alphabet like I was in C-Pod and they were also
called pods not blocks.
JM: Which types of inmates were housed in the different blocks? Rachel: MEN SEPARATE FROM WOMEN. EACH (SEX) ALSO HAD
PROTECTION CELLS THAT WERE ONE-PERSON Paula: You were housed based on classification.
Classification included type of charge, degree
of felony, previous arrest/conviction record,
previous history of violence, and previous
record, if any, of diciplinary actions or write
ups Lindsey: On the womens side on this specific jail there
wasn't really any order to who they put where. I
believe on the men's side they would put specific
men with other men with similar charges but where i
was at it was just 3 tanks, the suicide hole, and
solitary cofinement.
JM: What do you remember being the nicest and worst parts about the different blocks? Rachel: NICEST: REASONABLY FRESH PAINT (AND GOOD
CLEANING DONE BY THE INMATES IN THE CELLS)
WORST: YOU BASICALLY HAD TO GET NAKED (TO GO TO
THE SHOWERS) BECAUSE YOU WERE DIRECTLY IN FRONT
OF THE OBSERVATION WINDOWS.(OR TO THE TOILET) Paula: I only spent time in (1) block. The nicest thing
was being allowed to watch TV 24hrs a day. The
worst part was overcrowding sometimes lead to
inmates having to sleep on the floor in
plastic "boats". That always seemed to higher
tension within the actual cell as there simply
wasn't room to walk around without stepping on
other inmate's beds and property Lindsey: The nicest part about my block was this one guard
her name was Shontay and she made my time a whole
lot easier. She would come in and talk with me for
an hour sometimes just about whatever help pass
time on her shift and helped pass time for my day.
