Telephones

Interview with Victor and Mike

JM: Did you have regular access to telephones?
Victor: Yes, but there may be a line at certain times and sometimes people would refuse to get off of the phone and that could lead to a fight.
Mike: I don't remember access to phones at all. Only correspondence by letter.

JM: What types of charges applied for calling people? How much money would you guess the average inmate spends per week on phone calls?
Victor: I honestly do not remember the specifics of what the cost for a phone call was.
Mike: There was no telephone access in the county jail so none of this applies to me.

JM: Did you need to buy phone cards to call out?
Victor: No, I didn't. Back then it would only call land lines and they had to accept the charges, but it would not call cell phones.
Mike: Again, this does not apply. Written correspondence only.

JM: Did the jail screen your calls?
Victor: They probably did, but how would I know for sure?
Mike: Same as the rest regarding phone calls. N/A
