Interview with Kathy, Cameron, Norm, Arturo and Isidra
JM: Did you get off early based on good behavior? Kathy: yes I did I got out in 6 months instead of a yer Cameron: yes 3 months off of 9 if you stay out of trouble Norm: Everyone sentenced in NY is given 1/3 of the
sentence as good behavior and released early
accordingly. Extremely difficult to lose good
behavior unless you assault an officer or commit
an extreme new crime or escape. Arturo: I did get good behavior just doing what I was
told to do Isidra: For me there wasn't any such thing as good behavior and ho
free
JM: What is the most time off you can receive for good behavior? Kathy: I do not know It was my first time Cameron: the most you can get is 1/3 off your sentence Norm: 1/3 off the sentence that you were given by the judge. Arturo: 1/8 of your sentence for example if sentenced to
a year you do 8 months Isidra: I really have no idea
JM: What types of actions do you need to avoid in order to get time off? Did you ever witness somebody losing time off for good behavior? Kathy: You need to be good and do s your told not get
in to any fights, you can partake in activities,
and as for someone loosing time off Yes I did
see someone get into a fight and loose time off Cameron: no fighting, drugs , smoking and you may want to
maintain a good attitude I know a guy that just
couldn't stop using drugs and loss all his good
time Norm: Be an inmate and you get the time off
automatically. Only
extreme behavior loses the time. Basic infractions
or new crimes only get box or solitary time. Also,
you may lose housing privileges and moved to an
different block. Never going to lose good time
with extreme case or causing an injury to a guard. Arturo: smoking, fighting, not doing as directed by the
guards, I saw several fights and also witnessed
an individual throw up his morphine pill then
sell it to another inmate who then snorted the
pill Isidra: I witnessed ppl lose dates because they didn't have good
behavior but I would believe a pweson would lose good time
due to having violent fights. Keep getting into trouble or being
insubordinate
