Interview with Kathy, Cameron, Norm, Arturo and Isidra
JM: How long was your sentencing for? Kathy: I was sentenced to 1 year but ended up out in 6
months Cameron: I was sentence to 9 months Norm: Sentenced to 8 months county time Arturo: I have not been sentenced yet Isidra: I was initially sentenced to a 6/5 6 months in jail and 5 years
probation.
JM: Did you spend time in a holding cell after your sentencing? If so, what was that like? If you didn't where did they they take you instead? Kathy: yes I did till I got taken by a police van to
the jail I was there over night, then
transported to the jail where I served my 6
months Cameron: no I was already in Alden and they treat you like
your a kid in daycare they make you sit on your
bunk most of the day and it's just a bad situation Norm: Spend night in local town jail before being
transferred to county jail. Town jail serves
McDonalds for each meal and asks which combo meal
and drink you want before ordering. The jail did
not have pillows but did have a blanket and
detainees remain in their own clothes throughout.
After a night in local jail I was transferred to
county holding center, went through a night on
intake in a single cell bar style. After
classification by way of interview I was
transferred to the Correctional Facility and
directed to my assigned housing unit. Arturo: I spent one night in a holding cell and then went
to a cell block for three nights and was then
sent to the alden correctional facility where I
spent the rest of my time Isidra: After I was sentenced I stayed in the holding center for another
day or two and was released on probation to a halfway house.
Staying in a cell was ok because I could talk to people but the
ofgicers were ignorant hardly attented to our needs. It was
always so cold and the cover we had didn't help. It was dirty.
And they hardly let us get clean clothes they always play with
our mail also and leave it there sonetimes for days and days
