JM: Did you have regular access to telephones? Jen: no they keep us on lockdown for anywhere from 20
to 23 hours a day, sometimes for days in a row Karen: Yes we could use them any time we wanted unless
during lock down, but there were always long lines.
Lock down was pretty much 80% of the time though. Will: No, I used it whenever a deputy would allow me
to. Like I said it was about once a week if I
was lucky. Never more.
JM: What types of charges applied for calling people? How much money would you guess the average inmate spends per week on phone calls? Jen: prositition, soliciting, car theft, domestic
violance Karen: Whoever you called had to set up an account with
Global Link. They had to have a credit card and put
money on the account. When you called that number
the money was deducted according to the minutes
used. The call would not go through unless there
was money on the card. Will: It was $5 for a half hr, which didn't seem bad
to me. I would guess $10 for those who actually
have someone to talk to. There are a lot of guys
that don't ever use the phone. I know because
the 2 phones where right outside my cell. The
same few guys were always on the phone.
JM: Did you need to buy phone cards to call out? Jen: no everything is collect Karen: No you did not, because of Global Link. Will: Yes or someone on the outside could set up an
account on their phone for you to call them.
JM: Did the jail screen your calls? Jen: as far as I know they did, thats what the
recording said Karen: The call were recorded or at least they said they
were. Will: No
