JM: How many different blocks were there? Jake: 10 dorms holding 56 inmates in each misty: i THINK 9 Sam: 12 pods. One for the women. The hole. And the
introductory pod. A medical pod, two overflow
pods, and two inmate worker pods, and four
regular pods. Bruce: 9 Brian: WCJ has 10 blocks, or pods, total.
JM: Did they have names? If so, what were they? Jake: Dorm 1 and so on misty: CELL BLOCK 1THRU 9 AND BLOCK 2 WAS THE HOLE AND
3 WAS THE FEMALE DORM AND THERE WAS ALSO MEDICAL Sam: Pods 1 through 9. Bruce: well there was the med block and 7th that was
about it we pretty much went by the numbers Brian: 1 - Sorting pod
2 - Women's pod
3 - Solitary pod ("the hole")
4 - General population
5 - Violent offenders (restricted movement pod)
6 - General population,
7 - Sex offender pod / protective custody
8 - General population, long-term
9 - Long-term inmate worker pod
10 - Mental health ward / suicide watch
JM: Which types of inmates were housed in the different blocks? Jake: Medical and inmate workers misty: MEN WERE HOUSED IN 1,2,4,5,6,7,8,9 AND FEMALES
WERE HOUSED IN CELL BLOCK 3 AS WELL AS CO ED IN
MEDICAL Sam: 56 inmates per dorm. 48 single man cells. Bruce: well I think the lower numbers had the higher risk
people and the further out you got is where you
run into the medical block and everything.
Brian: 1 - New inmates awaiting classification
2 - Female offenders
3 - Inmates being punished for bad behavior
4 - Low-risk offenders, mostly Hispanic gang
members
5 - Offenders awaiting trial for violent crimes
6 - Low-risk offenders, mostly non-gang members
7 - Sex offenders or inmates seeking protection
8 - Inmates with sentences 9 months or longer
9 - Proven low-risk offenders with jail jobs
10 - Mentally unstable or suicidal offenders
JM: What do you remember being the nicest and worst parts about the different blocks? Jake: I hate the place and have blocked it out my mind.
Nothing is nice about jail misty: THE DEPUTYS DEPENDING ON WHO WAS WORKING SOME
WERE NICER THAN OTHERS, ALSO BEING ALLOWED TO
HAVE A SINGLE CELL VS A JOIND ONE Sam: They all looked the same but some were cleaner
than others. The hole was colder and no
recreation of any sort. Bruce: well Intake block sucks. Once you get to a real
number life gets a little easier for you. Brian: The best part about the layout was keeping each
type of criminal separate from one another.
Violent offenders looking at prison time would
have been problematic in gen pop with sex
offenders; non-gang-affiliated offenders often
thrived in the worker pod, just trying to cut off
time and get back outside.
