JM: How many meals did you get per day? Dodo: 3 meals per day, bagged lunch in RHU and intake Misty: You get three meals a day I suspect that night if you're
diabetic
JM: How would you rate the food? Please give details of why. Dodo: monotony, very little real, fresh food, most food
was fast food style frozen food that was reheated.
did accomodate meatless diets. Alot of very
unhealthy junk, like breakfast was a snack cake.
as mnetioned earlier, pork-free, so most meats
were chicken or turkey based, hot dogs might have
been beef Misty: The good isn't that bad but the do not help you too much if you
are on a special diet. If you are a vegetarian they tell you they
do not have all vegetable diets. The diabetic diet is bad too
they rinse off fruit soaked in corn syrup and say its diabetic
food.
JM: Did you have any favorite/least favorite meals? Dodo: pierogies were hockey pucks, mystery meat was beaver
tail, holidays were better than usual, with turkey
and gravy and maybe a dessert. Misty: I didn't really have any favorite food but they serve perogies
that are deep fried and hard as a brick
JM: Were there any other snacks offered outside of meals? What was commissary like and how expensive was it? Dodo: commissary was expensive and necessary, especially
for men who needed more calories, ramen noodles were
over $1.00, commissary creates a hierarchy of those
who have and those who don't and creates a within
jail blackmarket. Misty: There were no snacks offered unless you're diabetic or your
blood sugar dropped low Commissary was not that
expensive but it depended on what you wanted to buy. There
were lots of different things from over-the-counter pain
medication to sanitary products. You could also purchase
things like soups but there was no way to heat them up
