JM: What types of facilities were available to help pass the time? Dylan: Well you had rec which was 4 walls with an open
top to get fresh air. It had a basketball court
where I did alot of my time in rec doing. rec was
only like 1 hour in the morning. They had church
on sundays and once a month they cut hair.
JM: Did you have regular access to the entertainment or was competition fierce? Give details. Dylan: I would say 80 percent of fights were caused by
the tv. Every one wanted to watch their own show
and if the other person didnt like it well they
wanted it changed and if they didnt agree on it
well then its going down. But most of the time you
had the same shows come on at certain times or
certain days and they would come up with a
scheduel for the tv. like lunch time would be
Maury and when that was over the hispanics would
watch their show on the spanish channel. It just
depends on the tank and the inmates.
JM: Did you have a hard time staying in shape while in jail? Dylan: actually no. Even though there were no weights we
would just free weight workout. We would play
dominoes and play for pushups. 100 pushups for
the team who loses and we would play all day long.
then we would all workout after chow do sit ups,
push ups, pull ups, dips, we would roll the
heaviest mat up and do bicep curls. We made the
most of what we had. I actually gained muscle
weight when I was in there. I mean you locked up
all day long with nothing else to do you might as
well get in shape the way I see it.
JM: How often did you get to go outside? What did you do outside if you were allowed to? If you were not allowed to go outside what could you do for exercise? Dylan: Our rec was our outside. Even though we were
surrounded by walls the top was open so you could
see the sky, clouds, birds. but that was our
outside. Now they did have outside trustees that
worked outside but thats it.
JM: Did the jail offer church services? If so, what were they like and when were they held? Dylan: yes they did offer church service every sunday. I
never went to the services but the inmates who did
enjoyed it. I had a bible and I would read out of
that every day. That was my church service.
