JM: How often could you receive visitors? Marco: Twice a week, but I could be mistaken on that. Juan: You could get visitors every day, but it was
through glass and only for twenty minutes. Emilio: Once a week. Saturday and Sunday are generally
the only days you could get visits.
JM: Was the check-in process lengthy for those who came to see you? Marco: I don't think so. I think my mom got searched
once. Juan: I don't believe so, no. Or at least, my visitors
never complained about having to wait for a long
time or being treated poorly by any of the staff. Emilio: For the main side of the jail yes. Visits are
only 20-30 minutes and you could have to wait an
hour plus for check in and security.
JM: What was the visiting environment like? Marco: It was sometimes through a glass screen with a
phone and sometimes it was a contact visit. Juan: Dirty and cold. As I said, it was through glass
and you had to talk through a telephone receiver.
Sometimes you would have to move around to find
one that worked, as many of them were broken.
Although visits were 20 minutes, sometimes the
deputy on duty would miscalculate the time and my
visits were cut short. Arguing about it did no
good. Emilio: Old side is rough. Visits are through glass on a
junky dirty old phone. In PRC you got contact
visits in a cafeteria which were an hour long or
so and this was one of the main perks to not
getting in trouble while in that unit. Also
check in probably only took 15 minutes for your
family/friends.
