Interview with Tim, Bob, Peter, Iris, Pat, Elsie, Kathleen, George and Amber
JM: Did you get off early based on good behavior? Tim: The good thing was, that I didn't need to be on
good behavior. I only spent the one night in jail.
I went through all the classes and got my license
back a year later. Bob: generally nobody serves a full sentence unless
you mess up really bad. Peter: no i didnt. i stayed the full time i was there. Iris: I received time serve for my 2 weeks behavior
wasn't an issue. Pat: I was released early of county parole. I applied for
an early release program and they chose 2 out of 8
of us to release early because we were the least
"bad" people Elsie: That's a myth. Jail doesn't do that. You can be
charged with another offense and get another
sentence but this notion of good time doesn't apply. Kathleen: on good behavior? not sure. i only really know
about 2 for 1 days and people always mentioned
'kicks' due to being over crowded. i only really
noticed bad behavior altering your release date George: I had a short sentence so I was not released early
on good behavior. Amber: I DONT BELIEVE THERE WERE ANY EARLY RELEASES DUE
TO GOOD BEHAVIOR. I THINK TIME WAS SHAVED OFF OF
YOUR SENTENCE DUE TO OVERCROWDING
JM: What is the most time off you can receive for good behavior? Tim: I have no idea. I always figured it was a
percentage of your over all time and it would be
cut down by weeks or months depending on the term
of your sentence. Luckily I was only slated to do
one night. Bob: its standard you dont recieve any more for being
more "good". I was sentenced to a year and
served just under 9 months Peter: none. u stayed there only for three days. Iris: I'm not familiar with that Pat: I know that I only did 4 months on a year I was
sentenced to Elsie: Please see above. In fact, one thing I often
complained of was that in jail, one isn't given any
attention for doing the right thing but quite the
contrary. Kathleen: i have no idea. half time if i had to guess George: I have heard you have have half sentence reduced
for good behavior. Amber: I DONT KNOW THAT ANSWER
JM: What types of actions do you need to avoid in order to get time off? Did you ever witness somebody losing time off for good behavior? Tim: I would assume that you would have to involve any
thing that violates the jail policies or breaks
the law. No drugs, no fighting, no smuggling, no
riots, no alcohol and no weapons. I'm sure that
the prison system would love to just tack more
time on to a sentence for a repeat offender. Peter: i wouldnt know the answer to that. no i didnt
witness anyone losing time off for good behavior. i
just wasnt there long enought to know that. Iris: I would see people that would sign up to be
trustees they would work to receive benefits and
it looked good on there case . Pat: using contraband in jail will get you in big
trouble, fights, graffiti, vandalism, stealing. I
have seen time added to peoples sentences for small
as well as large violations. Elsie: Again, see above. Of late, you could be released if
you were NOT doing a prison sentence (i.e. state
time) due seemingly to overcrowding. Not relevant. Kathleen: i think im confused with your question. why would
someone lose their time off if they had good
behavoir? actions to avoid? um.. fighting,
contraband, disobedience. the deputys are pretty
lenientas long as you do as your told. learning
the ruls and then following them makes everyhting
run smoothly
George: Regular stuff such as no fighting, stealing, no
causing problems with guards, I believe it is east
to avoid getting in trouble if you chose to serve
as I did and stick to yourself. Amber: IM SURE IF YOU CATCH A NEW CASE YOU GET MORE
TIME OR IF YOU HAVE TOO MANY WRITE UPS THEN I
THINK YOU GET MORE TIME
