Interview with Tim, Bob, Peter, Iris, Pat, Elsie, Kathleen, George and Amber
JM: How often could you receive visitors? Tim: I couldn't receive any. I was there only a short
while, that it just took the evening to process
me, so there was no need for any visitors. Bob: up to twice a week, but it's a privelege that
they can take away. Peter: i wouldnt know the answer to that either. i was
only there for three days. Iris: I'm not to sure but I think it was twice a week
no more than two people. Pat: twice a week I was allowed to see my mother. I didnt
have anyone else come to see me Elsie: Twice a week for half an hour and this was done
through a glass barrier via a phone. Kathleen: i think all 7 days of the week one to 3 times a
day at various times. for an hour
each visit George: I believe we were only allowed visitors during the
weekends at that facility, my family came early on
Saturday mornings. Amber: VISITORS WERE ALLOWED DEPENDING ON YOUR HOUSING
UNIT BUT I THINK IT WAS AT LEAST TWICE A WEEK
JM: Was the check-in process lengthy for those who came to see you? Tim: Since there was no one that came to see me, I
don't think so. Peter: i wouldnt know the answer to that either. i didnt
see that there. there probably was, i just didnt
see it. so sorry if i didnt answer this. Iris: I think it was they had to pre register then come
an hour early for check in then still wait to see
each other . Pat: My mother had to be there a hour and a half early
before we were scheduled to see each other. She was
getting tired of jumping through the hoops every
week just to see me Elsie: They had to come an hour prior to the visit so I
find that lengthy. If they were a minute late, they
were refused. There was no reason for this adherence
to such because we couldn't pass anything or have
any privacy whatsoever. Kathleen: not so much im told but due to visitors having to
arrive an hour early prior to their scheduled
visit. that lengthened the time spent checking in George: They were able to schedule visits over the phone
or online, they used the online process and said
it was pretty eat they just looked up my info and
followed prompts from there. Amber: VISITORS HAD TO CALL AND MAKE RESERVATIONS AND
THEN THEY STILL WOULD HAVE TO ARRIVE UP TO AN
HOUR EARLY BEFORE THE VISIT TO CHECK IN
JM: What was the visiting environment like? Tim: I never saw it, so I don't know. Bob: you are separated by a glass wall and talk
through a phone. One of the few things about
jail that movies seem to get right. Peter: i wouldnt know the answer to this. i was only there
for three days. the only visiting was on the
telephone that we were able to use. theres probably
a visiting environment, i just didnt see it. im
sure there was one somewhere. i just dont know
exactly where. sorry. Iris: I had to speak to my loved ones behind a crappy
glass screen and had a old crusty phone to talk
thru. Wish that that facility wad face to face
contact that would be nice especially if you are
doing a long term things like that matters a lot . Pat: there were like 8 windows lined up next to each
other. They had dividers for privacy. Inmates were
sat down and hand cuffed to the bench before the
guests were brought in. we were given 30 minutes
during our visit which was never enough in my
opinion. It was not the nicest place Elsie: Like a cell. Both inmates and visitors were to sit
on metal stools and converse through phones that
often didn't function. There was tremendous chaos
from others in your vicinity and privacy was very,
very limited. Those visits too were listened to by
staff and thus one said very little regarding your
charges or behavior naturally. Kathleen: inmates arrive a fesw minutes before and sit down
next to a phone one of yer arms are chained to the
bench and one
arm is avaliable for the phone. yer able to see
your vsitors thru a thick plastic window. during
your time yer trying to block out other peoples
personal visits and remember everything you wanted
to say before time is up George: The environment was okay, it was peaceful and
quiet. There were benches and shade to sit at
during visiting times, the guards stayed off to
the side and didn't really bother us much as we
were spending time with our loved ones for the
short amount of time we were given. Amber: ALL OF THE VISITORS WOULD BE BEHIND A WALL WITH
PLEXIGLASS WINDOWS. YOU COMMUNICATED BY PHONES
THAT WERE TURNED ON BY THE DEPUTIES AT THE
BEGINING OF YOUR VISIT AND WERE PROMPTLY TURNED
OFF WHEN YOUR TIME WAS UP. SOMETIMES WITHOUT
NOTICE. YOU WERE ALLOWED 3 VISITORS AT A TIME
