Telephones

Interview with Stacy, Ron and Tom

JM: Did you have regular access to telephones?
Stacy: Yes
Ron: Most times when we were let out of lock down yes.
Tom: No, I don't due to the restricted access to the TTY.

JM: What types of charges applied for calling people? How much money would you guess the average inmate spends per week on phone calls?
Stacy: I never called anyone
Ron: Im pretty sure it was expensive. I didnt make any calls and I didnt really inquire about the subject.
Tom: I'd say about the 10 dollars or so to use the phone depends on whom they call.

JM: Did you need to buy phone cards to call out?
Stacy: I believe so, I think you had to have money on your books and purchase a card.
Ron: Something like that. There was a kiosk to buy things.
Tom: No, I don't. I use the phone relay for Deaf people for free.

JM: Did the jail screen your calls?
Stacy: I'm sure they did, and your letters
Ron: Im not sure, I think they might have.
Tom: No, it's not possible to screen TTY for Deaf.
