Interview with Ben

JM: Did you have regular access to telephones?
Ben: The phone was on from 8am-9pm.

JM: What types of charges applied for calling people? How much money would you guess the average inmate spends per week on phone calls?
Ben: You either had to buy calling cards or call collect. $20 card for about five 15 minute calls/week.

JM: Did you need to buy phone cards to call out?
Ben: Yes, or call collect.

JM: Did the jail screen your calls?
Ben: Yes, they said they were screening. I saw people get in trouble for things they said during phone calls.
