Good Behavior

Interview with Jessica, Sarah, Curt, Brad, Peter and Michael

JM: Did you get off early based on good behavior?
Jessica: It wasn't necessarily good behavior that would take time off of your sentence as much as if you signed up for classes or to become a trustee. Classes that last a few weeks would get you a few days off of your sentence each. If you became a trustee and did work around the jail like serving the food, doing laundry or working in the greenhouse you would get 5 days off of your sentance for every thirty days that you worked.
Sarah: yesYou get state time for good behavior which is 5 days for every 30 you serve. I only served 37 days out of a 60 day sentence. I was also a trustee and worked in the laundry 6 days a week 12 hours a day.
Curt: no
Brad: In florida, you get automatic 30 days gain time no matter what. That's mandatory state time.
Peter: I received 4 months of gain time.
Michael: Yes, I didn't get any gain time taken away. You have to do 85 % anyway so your date is your date when you get sentanced. I didn't get any time in the box or any problems. So no additional time.

JM: What is the most time off you can receive for good behavior?
Jessica: Good behavior gets you nothing. You can avoid getting thrown into lock-down that way but that is all. In regard to the classes and trustee work, it's all subject to change depending on how much time you have to serve and how many classes you take / how long you work for the jail.
Sarah: 5 days per every 30 you're sentenced
Curt: i am not sure.
Brad: Every 30 days working as trustee you get 5 days off your sentence.
Peter: In florida you have to serve 85% of your sentence.
Michael: None you have a sentance in in Seminole County you do all of it in State of Florida you do 85% unless you get into trouble.

JM: What types of actions do you need to avoid in order to get time off? Did you ever witness somebody losing time off for good behavior?
Jessica: Do not be too loud, fight or keep hold of contraband for sure. Contraband is pretty much anything dangerous or fun. No jewelry neither. Also you should stay in your bunk after the last head count and the lights go out. Just do anything and everything that the corrections officers tell you and don't talk back or ask questions.
Sarah: physical altercations, disrespecting staff, making messes and speaking out of turn.
Curt: i am not sure.
Brad: Don't get a DR which is a disciplinary report. You can get a DR if they catch you with contraband or if you talk back to a CO or a staff member.
Peter: Fighting, disrespecting CO's, possesing any kind of contraband, or any other violations of that facilities rules and regulations.
Michael: Yes you lose time for the stupidest things when in jail. Things on the outside you would never think twice about doing. But, something as simple as not having a receipt for commissary or having one too many pictures in your property. They look for anything to take your time away.
