Interview with Clara, Carlos, Oscar and Lori

JM: How many different blocks were there?
Clara: im not sure. it was huge in there!!! that was the first time i had ever been there.
Carlos: The pod I was in had 16 rooms. 4 single cells for lockdown and the rest are 2 man cells. There are 4 pods per units and total 12 units.
Oscar: A lot. I would say at least 30 to 60 in most of the jails. Broward and Orange have like 6 different jails.
Lori: Six total.

JM: Did they have names? If so, what were they?
Clara: i dont know.
Carlos: They would go by Unit 6, Pod A, Pod B, Pod C and so on.
Oscar: yes. but I can't remember them all. all I remember is north borward, main, paul ryan, contene for broward, genis, horizons, phoenix, main, and some others for orange. the other jails didn't.
Lori: They were labeled by numbers 1-6. Each cell block was then divided into lettered pods.

JM: Which types of inmates were housed in the different blocks?
Clara: the kept them seperated by how serious the crimes were and how they acted in jail.
Carlos: Violent and sexual offenders were kept separate. They would put them in their own pods.
Oscar: based on charges. violent non-violent. felony or misdemeanor I can not answer this any further as I don't know the procedures for this out come as I had always been in custody and am not sure what you want to know else.
Lori: Violent and sentenced inmates were housed in their own cell block. Female inmates also had their own cell block.

JM: What do you remember being the nicest and worst parts about the different blocks?
Clara: it was cold and they didnt offer any help as far as me having a toothache. had to wait til sarasota county to receive help for my tooth.
Carlos: Going outside was the nicest. The worst was watching people get the crap beat out if they find out they in there for and they didn't like that. I seen two guys die in there.
Oscar: nothing really. all were disgustingly dirty. I can not answer this any further as I don't know the procedures for this out come as I had always been in custody and am not sure what you want to know else. There is nothing nice about jail it is all bad especially the guards.
Lori: Nothing nice about them whatsoever. They all had a strong urine odor and were freezing cold.
