JM: Did you find it difficult to get along with other inmates? Please give examples to explain why you did or didn't. Cody: No not really. Nicole: I did not find it difficult to get along with
other inmates because I did not converse with the
other inmates. Most of the inmates tried to be
"tougher" than the others or felt like they had a
point to prove. I stayed in my cell when we were
allowed to come out usually, to avoid any of the
nonsense.
JM: What types of things did you have to do to avoid problems or fights with other inmates? Cody: I just minded my own business and stayed up all
night and slept through the afternoon. Nicole: I did not have to do anything to avoid any issues
with other inmates but I did usually stay in my
cell as I did not care to interact with them. I
was ok with my cellmate. I did speak with them
occasionally but I kept to myself for the most part.
JM: Were you able to choose an inmate as your cellmate if you knew one? How often would your cellmate(s) change? Cody: One time I was able to choose. It was 2 months
I had been there, and they had me moved to a
different pod area. I was trying to see if I
could move with one of my friends I knew when I
was a younger kid. One of the correctional
officers (CO) was a cool guy and he said if my
celly and the other persons celly was OK with
it, we could move to the same cell. Nicole: I was not able to choose my cellmate, although I
knew a few girls on the deck. My cellmate never
changed. However, if my cellmate left, I owuld
have received a new one.
