JM: What types of facilities were available to help pass the time? Cody: There is an exercise room with a floor and
walls. You could run around and do pushups.
They have walls with metal screens, and we used
to take our shirts off and put them against the
welding and do pushups. There was a TV in the
pod. There is a little library and a computer
room (no internet). They have crossword puzzles
and sudoku. Nicole: To help pass the time, there were programs such as
rehab, GED classes, church, library and a few
others that would help you reach your personal
goals or education goals. You did not have regular
all day everyday access to these programs though.
You were only allowed to join them once accepted.
JM: Did you have regular access to the entertainment or was competition fierce? Give details. Cody: A couple times we asked everybody if there was a
basketball game or a good show, we would call
for a vote. You have to work with the other
inmates about it.
To get sudoku or crossword puzzle you have to
ask the CO to print one out the day before. Nicole: There was not regular access to entertainment.
There really wasnt any entertainment at all. Of
course there were programs that you could join
just to get out of your cell, but those were
usually packed and the competition was difficult.
There was usually a waiting list to join these
programs.
JM: Did you have a hard time staying in shape while in jail? Cody: No, not really. The first month I didn't like
the food and didn't know anybody to work out
with. If you stay in jail more than 10 days
they give you a shot and weigh you. I had lost
15 lbs at that point. By the time I got out I
had gained some weight back through eating and
exercising. Nicole: While in jail, it isn't too hard to stay in shape,
because the food is gross!!! Its easy to lose
weight and people usually walked or ran around the
deck to excersize.
JM: How often did you get to go outside? What did you do outside if you were allowed to? If you were not allowed to go outside what could you do for exercise? Cody: Only when you have a court date across the
street. You go into the booking area, get
patted up and go in the van and you can see the
outside. You don't breathe the air from
outside. Nicole: You NEVER got the chance to go outside. For
exercise, you could walk or if you had a nice C/O
you could jog slowly around the deck.
JM: Did the jail offer church services? If so, what were they like and when were they held? Cody: No they didn't offer church services. Nicole: There were church services Wednesday and Sunday.
There was bible study as well. I never attended so
Im not sure how that was.
