Telephones

Interview with Brandon and Lydia

JM: Did you have regular access to telephones?
Brandon: Yes access was there. But didn't really need to use the phones that much.
Lydia: Yes I did for a moment until my commissary was depleted.

JM: What types of charges applied for calling people? How much money would you guess the average inmate spends per week on phone calls?
Brandon: Well my sentence wasn't a lengthy one so there wasn't any need for me to make many calls.
Lydia: Honestly I cant remember the amount that was being charged for each individual call and I suppose each inmate may spend in upwards of fifty dollars or more each week

JM: Did you need to buy phone cards to call out?
Brandon: No I did not I usually didn't make any calls.
Lydia: Yes during the time that I was incarcerated I think that all jail locations in the united states had switched to the phone card system

JM: Did the jail screen your calls?
Brandon: From my understanding the only calls that were screened were from individuals that may have posed a risk.
Lydia: Each and every facility screens your calls regardless of what they may tell you.
