JM: Tell us about the pre-sentencing process: Lily: After all the stress and back in forth to court i
was sentenced 16 months. Dawn: I was on probation for a 2nd offense domestic
violence. i had a lawyer so the charge was dropped
to a 2nd offense. I drove to the court house and
waiting in the court room for judge Jonas to call
me to the podium. I didn't wait too long and the
process was easy I was guilty.
JM: Did you have police stop by your house for questioning? If not please give us details on how you came to be arrested. Lily: NO! padilla: No Dawn: No I was drinking after work and an incodent had
occur which police were called and spoke with me.
they took my name and ran it saw that i was on
probation in Ottawa County. They contacted my
probation officer in holland and he was in contact
with me. He informed me that he knew what had
happened and I was scheduled a court date to apper
in front of a judge.
JM: What was court like? Please give as many details as you recall. Lily: I was in the county blues padilla: Dont remember Dawn: Going to court is always a nerve wrecking
experience for me. I had to drive from benton
harbor to Holland so i was usually early. I
thought was nice that there was a cafe just
walking distance away from the court house. The
court process was down to point and quick. Of
course i did end up going to jail.
JM: What were your original charges? What did you end up being convicted of? Dawn: My original charge was domestic 2nd offense and I
was charged with probation violation.
