JM: What types of facilities were available to help pass the time? Ricky: on our block we were unable to do anything
because we were protected custody so they thought
it was to much for them.so i was write a sick
call slip in order to get off the block or beg
the co to get a haircut just act crazy to get off
the block Frank: We went to the gym twice a week there's hand ball
basketball and lifting weights. In the block theres
bible study, cards, chess you can draw, watch cable
tv or workout.
JM: Did you have regular access to the entertainment or was competition fierce? Give details. Ricky: well the only good thing was cable but when it
came to rec we were skiped mostly all the days
and was only to get sunlight 1 day a month this
brought a lot of tenision to the block because
the block was so small so we were up each asses
all day Frank: Whatever is on you watch mostly sports if you
change the channel that usually will start a fight.
JM: Did you have a hard time staying in shape while in jail? Ricky: I was able to work out with my celly during lock
in times and able to do pushups outside the cell Frank: I lost 30 pounds in 40 days. The food is hard to
gain weight or maintain weight other than that yes
i was able to stay in shape by working out.
JM: How often did you get to go outside? What did you do outside if you were allowed to? If you were not allowed to go outside what could you do for exercise? Ricky: like I said we were skiped for outdoor rec but
when their was a non homophobe co they would take
us outside but rarely did we see outside Frank: No for exercise we went to the gym twice a week to
lift weights play hand ball or basket ball. In the
block theirs push ups pull ups and using trash bags
with water as weights.
JM: Did the jail offer church services? If so, what were they like and when were they held? Ricky: they did offer chuch but since we were in
protective custody and we were gay they thought
we did not need church Frank: Yes twice a week but only for christian's they were
really good helps keep your head up and thinking
positive. They were held in the bail reduction
room.
