JM: Did you find it difficult to get along with other inmates? Please give examples to explain why you did or didn't. Wyatt: I had no problem getting along with other
inmates, it was the cops and officers that tried
to cause problems. When I finally arrived to a
cell block, there had been some kind of
commotion between a guard and an inmate, and
they locked us in our cells for a week and fed
us nothing but cheese sandwiches again. Our
water was even cut off for a period of time to
prevent inmates from flooding their cells. Most
of the prison inmates were white, so I did not
witness much segration. It was easy to get along
with inmates in county because it was a local
jail. Erica: yeah I am not very good at jail, I didn't tlak to
anyone even though most of the inmates were just
like me and had made a mistake htat they had to
pay for
JM: What types of things did you have to do to avoid problems or fights with other inmates? Wyatt: I never had to worry about avoiding problems
with other inmates at Butler County because I
knew most of the inmates from living in Butler.
It is a small town, and a lot of the inmates in
their were buddies from the outside.
Occasionally people would get stir crazy and
cause fights over little things like card games,
or control over the televisions. I am a bigger
guy and a weight lifter with a lot of friends,
so I did not really have people trying to cause
problems with me. If they did get in my face, I
would sometimes fight, and when I could, just
walk away. Erica: I didn't really socialize much, I kept to myself
to avoid problems, I only came out of my cell to
eat use the phone and have visits with my
parents. when I did come out to socialize, I knew
a few girls in there so I would sit with them
JM: Were you able to choose an inmate as your cellmate if you knew one? How often would your cellmate(s) change? Wyatt: Yes, we were able to choose our cellmates if we
knew other inmates. I chose the first few
cellmates I had, but people were constantly
being moved around so it was hard to keep one
cellmate for any length of time, even if we got
along. Erica: I had two cell mates in thirty days, I didn t
have a choice on who they put in my cell I got
along with both women I was bunked with
