JM: Tell us about the pre-sentencing process: Robert: I had to undergo a state exam to determine if I was a sexual
predator, which I wasn't. Then I was called in to my attorneys
office the day before I was to appear before the Judge and told
I had to take a plea. That was a shock to me. Amanda: The pre- sentencing process took two years. While
my lawyer and the DA worked out a deal- I was on
electronic monitoring. In addition I was followed
pre-trial by the bail agency. I was also required
to undergo an independent mental health
evaluation that cost me $2,000.00. I also had to
have someone come see my living environment.
JM: Did you have police stop by your house for questioning? If not please give us details on how you came to be arrested. Robert: Yes, police from Chester County PA came to my house in
Maryland with a search warrant and seized my computer and
all office records and then asked me to go to the Maryland
State Police Barracks where they began questioning me for
two hours and then told me to appear the following week in PA
to be booked. Amanda: The police came to my business and stated that I
has practiced Social work w/out a license and
arrested me on the spot. They then took me to
jail where it took me two days to bail out bc I
could not call the right people. Then- my bail
was ridiculously high
JM: What was court like? Please give as many details as you recall. Robert: I had a terrible attorney. When I was called to plead at
arraignment my attorney was not even in the room. He was on
the phone and the DA upped my charges to more serious
ones, to which I pleaded not guilty, without my attorney in the
court. When I appeared for my plea the judge said even
though there was no victim he was treating it like there was
and threw the book at me. Amanda: I waived my preliminary hearing and was never
heard in district court. When I got to the
municipal court level, I plead guilty and was
sentenced on the spot. After sentencing the judge
gave me three days to get my affairs in order and
turn myself into the prison facility
JM: What were your original charges? What did you end up being convicted of? Robert: I originally had 60 counts against me with 2 more added at
arraignment. I pled guilty to 5 counts as part of a plea bargin. Amanda: Practicing Social work w/out licensure- and plead
guilty to one count of the same
