Interview with April, Julie, Brenda, Cesar and Eddie
JM: How many meals did you get per day? April: We got three per day, except on Saturday and
Sunday, you got brunch instead of breakfast
and lunch. Julie: 3 square microwavable meals a day Brenda: Monday through Friday was 3 meals.
Saturday and Sunday only 2 meals. Cesar: 3 meals breakfast lunch and dinner and on
weekends you had brunch and dinner . Eddie: Everyone is served 3 meals a day.
JM: How would you rate the food? Please give details of why. April: On a scale from one to ten, ten being amazing
and one being the worst, I would rate the
food a 4. The reason I would rate it a 4 is
because it was poorly made, repetitive meals,
and you would get 4 pieces of bread and beans
with every meal. Julie: it was horrible. Nothing fresh about it even frozen
veggies were gross. There was not one thing I ate
there that was in the least bit appetizing. White
bread, margarine, nasty bologna peanut butter,ew.
The meat was referred to as squirrel, tasted so bad.
oh, it was so bad. should be illegal. Brenda: Fair. I was never hungry. They gave you a lot
of bread. If someone didn't want their meal they
could give it to you. You weren't allowed 2nd's
but you could get 2nd's on a drink. I would
always get more juice. It really wasn't that
bad. I did have a lot of heartburn tho. Cesar: well some days the food were good and some days
the food were just dis liked do to likens . not
that the food was bad or anything . you had you
cereal for breakfast or eggs or oatmeal then you
had your noodles hamburger chicken patty and
things like that dinner were pretty decent . Eddie: The food was fairly decent. On holidays special
meals were given and you could option for certain
trays such as no meat or lactose intolerant. Some
type of meat or protein was served with every meal
along with a milk and at breakfast juice was given
too. Mixed fruit punch was also available.
JM: Did you have any favorite/least favorite meals? April: Yes my favorite would be the brunch because
the breakfast there is actually pretty decent
and the least favorite would be the bologna
sandwiches. Julie: all of it was horrible. if i had to say something
good, the dry cereal and pancakes were tolerable and
an occasional cookie. Brenda: NOT AT ALL lol. My favorite meal was a che che
that I made from items on the canteen. I had
money so I always ordered items to make my own
food. Cesar: yeah eggs and hash brown chicken patty for lunch
and chicken for dinner . i hated cold cuts for
lunch that sucked ... Eddie: My favorite meal was the veggie burger I was on a
neutral diet and received no meat by choice. Also
oatmeal at breakfast was good.
JM: Were there any other snacks offered outside of meals? What was commissary like and how expensive was it? April: There was no snack offered by the prison, but
you could purchase commissary, which was
outrageous prices. For a bag of coffee, four
ounces, it was $5. And for a bag of chips
that would normally cost a quarter in a
store, is a dollar. Julie: an occasional cake or cookie, or chocolate, no food
from outside and we had vending machines available
from 5 am to 10 pm for snacks and drinks for anybody
who had money or found a way to break them out. Brenda: You were allowed to order $80.00 every week. I
always ordered $80.00 every week. I would order
things like soups, chips, candy. I wish they had
gum because I would of ordered that. But your
basic snack food. Cesar: yeah there were ice bars , or pudding .
commissary was pretty expensive , and really not
a good variety of items . but you had to make
things last if not you got hungry by night and
woke up hungry ... Eddie: No snacks were offered but items were available on
commissary such as roman soups, candy bars, chips,
tuna packets and so on. Candy was about 1.50 each
but soups only cost 55 cents. There was also mixed
drink powder available.
