Interview with April, Julie, Brenda, Cesar and Eddie
JM: How often could you receive visitors? April: You could receive visitors every two days -
for example if you get one Monday, the next
time ur available to get one is Thursday. Julie: i think visits were every other week and I'm not
sure for how long of a time. Brenda: In LCP you could have a visitor every 3 days. I
was very lucky to have family come every 3 days. Cesar: every three days clock work . its was always a
good thing also to see your loved ones Eddie: One time every three days your allowed a visitor.
Each visit up to two people can come in.
JM: Was the check-in process lengthy for those who came to see you? April: I only had two visitors my stay and my mom
said that in comparison to other jails it
wasn't to lengthy. It took a while to get
searched but other than that it was quick. Julie: I know that everyone visiting had to have an id
children birth certificate I believe and sign in and
out. I am not sure if they were searched. Brenda: No. They had to put their personal belongings in
a locker and walk through a metal detector. It
was more of a pain in the butt waiting for
someone to leave so that they could come up an
visit. Cesar: they always said no but there were some days that
my peoples had to wait an hour to be seated to
see me but that's cause of the holidays mainly Eddie: They had to check in at the front of the prison
and wait until they were called then travel on the
elevator to the assigned floor and sit in a 5
chaired room behind a window and talk through a phone.
JM: What was the visiting environment like? April: The visiting area is a room with a bunch of
stools, there is a piece of wall seperaton
each area where the visitor comes an you pick
up a phone type in your inmate number and
talk to your visitor on the phone through a
glass that is very thick. Julie: the visits were held in the front lobby by the
officer's bubble. chairs and tables were set out for
the visits. no food, drinks, toys for children, no
drop offs allowed at those times. inmates coming and
going to and from work, light traffic due to it
being a weekend. Brenda: Horrible but acceptable. There are about 8
windows with glass between you and your visitor.
You had to talk by telephone. You couldn't touch
your visitor. It was not fun. Everyone can hear
your conversation. People were very noisy and
would tell inmates who came to visit you and what
you talked about. Cesar: well you have five phone booths and five metal
round seats . dividers in between , and only 4
feet of space behind you and 1 feet of space to
each side times can be filling tight or jammed
back some days but hey nothing really good about
prison , Eddie: A crowded white room with 5-6 people on each side
separated by plastic panels. You were behind glass
windows and had to talk through a phone contact
visits are not allowed unless you take a special
class and that is only available for inmates to
see their children. The visits lasted about 15-30
minutes
