Interview with Jenna, Cris, Mel, Bonnie, Ashley, Aaron, Walter, Shawn, Mimi, Saul, Heather, Ricky, Sterling, Doug and George
JM: Did you get off early based on good behavior? Jenna: No. King count automatically takes 1/3 off your sentence as a
standard procedure. I think you only get good time in prison! Cris: na Mel: Yes. I was sentenced to 100 days. I served 67
days and was released. I think by default you
get 1/3 off your sentence. If you get a new
charge (i.e, contraband, assault, breaking
N.C.O) your "good time" goes away. Bonnie: No, infact I was punished, along with numerous
other inmates for "failing inspection", which if
you have to ask what that means, I woulndn't be
able to tell you, why? Well, because when I had
asked the lady doing the inspections why I had
failed, she in return gave me no response! When
I tried calling her on the intercom, she ignored
me four different times. Ashley: I was only there 25 hours Aaron: Yes. I was awarded my good time off which. Means. I did 3/4
of my original sentence and went to work release as apart of.
My. Good behavior. Walter: Yes but only from Kittitas county. I received 1/4 off my
sentence. King county I was in for a day and bailed out. Shawn: Yes, I got my good time for not getting in trouble
and got released early Mimi: Yes, they sentenced me to 3 weeks but let me out
after 2. Saul: No. My conviction did not have time off for good
behavior. Heather: No because i wasnt in on a committment i was
fighting a case, Ricky: According to the legislature, I got the maximum
allowable good time for my violent offense (one
third off) Sterling: Yeah pretty much everyone gets good time. Gun
charges might not. The only person that I knew who
lost his good time lost it after suing the
Department of Corrections. Doug: I got off of d.o.c. early for good behavior but not
jail. George: I served 60 days on a 90 day sentence, for one of
my charges.
JM: What is the most time off you can receive for good behavior? Jenna: I'm not sure, I have never been in jail or prison long enough to
receive this offer. Cris: na Mel: As far as I know, 1/3. Ashley: na Aaron: 2/3 I believe. That. Is. A very good question. I'm sure there
are some. Different circumstances based on different
instituutions and states and countys etc. Walter: I'm unaware of king counties policy but Kittitas gives you 1/4
off for good behavior. Shawn: You get one third off for good time Mimi: I believe that the way it works is that you can
get 30% of your time off for good behavior. Saul: I did not qualify for time off Heather: So you get a third off..for example if you are
sentenced to 90 days you do 60. Ricky: One third off for violent crime Sterling: A third. In prison you can get half so you hear
people ask for a year and a day so they will be
sent to prison for 6 months. Most year sentences
go to prison. Doug: I think that its 1/3 off of your sentence. George: as i know it you due 2/3 of your time for good
behavior.
JM: What types of actions do you need to avoid in order to get time off? Did you ever witness somebody losing time off for good behavior? Jenna: Well I would think staying out of trouble, no fighting, killing or
offensive behavior. The best thing to do is get into clubs, meetings,
duties, working in the kitchen anything to keep you busy. Mel: fighting, smoking anything, drugs, flipping the
staff attitude. Bonnie: Depends on the person, and the mood of the
officer in control.. Ashley: na Aaron: Yes I have many times. There will. Always, always. Be. Some.
Sort of a tussle or argument during your stay because that's
just the nature of being a male in a hostile territory bbound
by cement walls and. Stress. Walter: Just don't start a physical fight or make enemies. Don't mess
with the guards. I did see somebody mess with the video visit
phone and lose his good time for it. Shawn: You need to avoid getting in any fights or causing
problems with the guards and I think you cannot
get caught breaking any serious rules Mimi: I think that as long as you don't fight with the
other inmates or the guards you are eligible. I
never saw anyone get time taken off, the judge
decided that in the courtroom, not the guards. Saul: In my time in Jail I did not know of anyone losing
time off. If someone did something(like fighting)
they were wisked away and we would not hear of any
outcome of what happened. Heather: No fighting, no talking to males during court.
Listen to the correction officers. have your cell
clean and ready for inspection days. have your bed
made daily. i witnessed two girls fist fight but i
dont know if they lost good time. Ricky: Basically stick to all rules. Any violations
including trivial like phone conversations etc.
can result in a loss of good time. King County is
far more strict than DOC. Sterling: Yeah the dude who sued probation. So to answer
your question dont sue the cops. These other guys
got into a fight but it was man to man stuff so
nobody told on them but had they got caught they
might have lost it. Doug: You need to avoid anything that would get you in
trouble such as being violent or harassing other
inmates, or not obeying the correctional officers. i
never witnessed anyone losing good time for good
behavior. George: to avoid getting time taken off of good behavior,
you cannot fight anyone, and you have to follow
the rules of the facility in which you are
currently being held.
