Interview with Carrie, Michael, Roy, Tiff, Lela and Manuel
JM: How many different blocks were there? Carrie: There are 6 floors, and 4 pods on each floor,
there are about 3 cells in each pod. Depends on
the pod. Michael: plenty Roy: I have not idea Tiff: There were two for the women. Lela: There were definitely 4 cell blocks on each level
and maybe 4 or 5 levels for dorms. Only 2 girls
dorms and one was smaller than the one i was in. Manuel: I'm not sure how many diffrent blocks there was.
JM: Did they have names? If so, what were they? Carrie: Yes, A,B,C and D. They were color coded. Blue,
green, yellow and red. Michael: yes letters of the alphabet and color Roy: Not sure Tiff: one POD WAS CALLED 6d AND THE OTHER WAS 6a Lela: They didn't have names necessarily they were just
categorized by what floor they were on and then
blocks A thru D. For example, I was on the 6th
floor and in block D, so I was in 6D. Manuel: A block,b block,c block, ands so on not sure of all
the block names.
JM: Which types of inmates were housed in the different blocks? Carrie: Feamles had a floor to themselves, there was a
floor for "the hole", there was a floor for
felonies, and a floor for misdemeanors. Michael: i was with felons waiting trail and others there
for misdemenors Roy: There were probably 30 inmates in the same area
as me. Tiff: 6A SEEMED TO BE FOR LOW CLASS CHARGES LIKE
TRAFFIC TICKETS AND 6D WAS FOR MAJOR FELONY LIKE
CHARGES LIKE MURDERAND ABUSE. DEPENING ON
CAPACITY OF EACH U COULD BE PLACED ACCORDINGLY. Lela: The block I was in was just general/in-take. So it
was the main girls dorm. 4A was also women but
more for the mentally ill/challenged women. But I
have heard of women getting put in there because
6D was too over crowded. Then they had the block
(can't remember specifically which one but it was
downstairs by the psych doctor) where they kept
the really crazy/suicidal people and the people
who got sent to segregation for fights, etc. - The
hole. Manuel: Well they separated the violent offenders and so
on in diffrent blocks.some inmates with not to
violent offenses got to work in the kithchen the
laundry room.and some inmates work as custodials.
JM: What do you remember being the nicest and worst parts about the different blocks? Carrie: Depends where you go. The 6th floor has no
phones, and you are not allowed to have visits.
There are different guards, and inmates, some
guards were not as strict as others, and some
had chips on their shoulders. There were some
floors that had nicer gyms than the others, but
no matter where you went, the food was always
discusting. Michael: they were all basicly the same Roy: Not sure. It was freezing but everyone was
pretty quiet. Tiff: there WAS NOTHING NICE ABOUT EITHER BLOCK JUST
BIBLE STUDY. I MEAN IT WAS JAIL. THERE NOTHING
GOOD ABOUT BEING LOCKED UP. THEY HUMILIATE U BY
MAKING U UNDRESS IN FRONT OF THEM AND EVERYBODY
ELAS. yOU HAD TO SHOW YOUR BLOODY PADS TO SOME
GUARDS JUST TO RECIEVE A FRESH ONE. sO DEMEANING. Lela: My block was ok because it was bigger than the
other women's dorm and there were less crazy
people (I assume). I didn't personally see the
other one tho. I did however see 'The hole' and
that was not pretty.. There was blood on some of
the windows of the cells and people were screaming
and being super weird and creepy. They get to see
everyone come in and out when they come in and see
the Psych doc. So they don't get to get out except
for an hour a day but atleast they get to people
watch. They keep the girls and guys in the same
place, just separate. They get Nutraloaf for every
meal and cannot order commissary or get visitors
or watch TV. Nutraloaf is literally all the food
from the meals smashed up into a loaf and cooked
all together... Manuel: There is really no nice blocks to me there all
the same.but I heard that the working blocks
especially the laundry room block they get to
order special foods and the had phone privileges
with having to call collect.and they got to watch
movies every weekend.and they got to wear
gymshoes instead of sandals.
