JM: Tell us about the pre-sentencing process: Jerry: it took forever because of my public defender
would come at a certain date and time to talk
about the case and would offer me plea agreements
that i wouldn't accept then they send you letters
about your case and having to go over and over
about the same thing which sucks because theres
nothing you can do about it Pat: i had too go to court and get all my paperwork
together. hire an attorney too represent me
wait for my sentence date too serve\
I feel presentencing is just waste time too make
you more nervous and too stress you out.
waiting game and its all about how much money you
have to get you off
JM: Did you have police stop by your house for questioning? If not please give us details on how you came to be arrested. Jerry: no police stopped by my house i had like 10 cops
behind us and came to a stop they
took there guns out and had to take hands out the
vehicle where it was visible. then had me put my
hands on top of my head and walk backwards then
get on my knees and that's how i got arrested Pat: At the the time of DUI- they took me too jail and
I had too bond out.. Wait for hearing and trial
too be sentence
which takes forever because yo know you will be
going away for quite ahile so get all your
personal things done and money saved because you
will need for your books
JM: What was court like? Please give as many details as you recall. Jerry: they would have us wake up like 5-6 morning put
the shackles on us and they would give each of us
a partner which would be handcuffed to each other
then you get on the bus and when we would get to
court they would put us in a room full of inmates
and we would wait from 8am-12pm to hear your name
once you where in court you couldn't make eye
contact of any kind with family members or other
people in the court Pat: it was very nerve wracking- people you didnt know
were listening in on your court appearance.
It was very long because you had too wait your
turn and hear other court appearance before yours..
then they bring in witnesses and police officer
who has your records from before and sees you
already had dui
JM: What were your original charges? What did you end up being convicted of? Jerry: original charges where felony 3 for theft of
transportation and ended up getting dropped down
to a felony 6 Pat: dui- too extreme because of previous one
